A detailed guide to the garlic growing cycle: how many days from sowing to harvest?
To grow garlic, you need to understand the garlic growing cycle and planting time clearly, so how long is the garlic growing cycle specifically? And when is the best planting time? Let's find out together.
1. Garlic growing cycle
The growing cycle of spring-planted garlic is generally about 90-100 days, while that of autumn-planted garlic is about 220-280 days, depending specifically on the sowing date
The garlic growing cycle is further divided into several different stages:
1. Germination stage (generally about 10-15 days);
2. Seedling stage (5-6 months for autumn-planted garlic, about 25 days for spring-planted garlic);
3. Clove differentiation stage (about 10 days);
4. Bulb enlargement stage (about 50-60 days);
5. Physiological dormancy stage (about 60 days).
2. Planting time
Garlic is generally planted in spring and autumn, with autumn planting being the main method. The period from late September to early October each year is a relatively suitable time for planting garlic; garlic can be planted in spring as long as the temperature can be maintained at 3-6°C.
3. Planting precautions
1. Pay attention to watering, because garlic is a crop with a relatively high water requirement. The soil must be kept moist to allow garlic to grow quickly. Generally, watering is needed four times throughout the growing period: the first after sowing, the second during the seedling stage, the third during the bolting stage, and the fourth during the bulb enlargement stage.
2. Also pay attention to fertilizing. Garlic has relatively high requirements for soil fertility. If no fertilizer is applied, it can easily affect garlic yield.
If you want to grow garlic well, after sowing garlic at the suitable sowing time, field management is also indispensable.
