A detailed explanation of the planting methods and key technical points for corn grass
How is corn grass planted? Many people do not know, so below we will explain how to plant corn grass.
1. Land preparation
Corn has deep fibrous roots, so deep plowing is required. Deep plowing can create a loose plow layer and help increase yield. Within the depth of the cultivated layer, generally the greater the plowing depth, the greater the increase in yield. The plowing depth must not be less than 22cm; more than 40cm is even better.
2. Sowing
For spring planting, sow early at the proper time. For spring sowing in Panzhihua, it should be from late March to early April. On the previously leveled land, make beds 1.5m wide, apply sufficient base fertilizer, and build drainage ditches. The sowing rate per mu is 1.5-2kg. Before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water at 30°C for 24 hours. Use hole sowing or seedling transplanting at a plant-row spacing of 40cm×60cm. When sowing, only a light covering of fine soil is needed. After sowing, keep the bed surface moist. The seedlings grow slowly within 30-50 days, so pay attention to weed control.
3. Harvest
Corn grass reaches a plant height of 3m, with luxuriant stems and leaves. It enters a rapid growth period 30 days after sowing. Each plant can tiller more than 20 plants, and at most 60-70 plants. When the plant height is above 50cm 45 days after sowing, begin harvesting, leaving a stubble of 5cm to promote rapid regrowth. After that, it can be cut again every 20 days, and can be cut 8-10 times in the whole growth period. With proper management, more than 30000kg of green forage can be produced per mu.
