Guangyu is a food that people in coastal areas often eat, but many people from other places do not know what animal Guangyu comes from or what nutritional value it has. Let's take a look below.

1. What animal does Guangyu come from?

Fish maw can be divided into three types: Guangyu, Huajiao and Zhadu, with prices ranging from several hundred yuan to several thousand yuan per jin. Generally, Guangyu (also called mmyfish male maw) is made by processing the swim bladder of the male mmyfish of the Sciaenidae family, and is also called Minyu maw or Miyu maw. The finished product is oval and sheet-like, with slight ripples on the convex side and a relatively smooth concave side, pale yellow or light red in color, bright and lustrous, and semi-transparent.

2. How should Guangyu be selected?

Fish maw is made by drying the swim bladder, and includes yellow croaker maw, huiyu maw, eel maw, etc. It is mainly produced in China's coastal areas and the Nanyang Archipelago and other places. The “Guangyu” produced in Guangdong has the best quality, while the “Maochang maw” produced in the Fujian and Zhejiang areas is slightly inferior to Guangyu, but is also considered a fine product. Guangyu and Maochang maw are transparent in color and have no black blood marks; the larger ones have stronger expansion. Yellow croaker maw is divided into three types: thick and large pieces are called “tipian”, thin and small pieces are called “diaopian”, and tipian and diaopian are best when pale yellow and bright in color, with good expansion. There is also a kind called “dapian”, which is made by joining several small fish maws together into large sheets and drying them; its color is muddy and not bright, its quality is inferior, and its expansion is insufficient. Huiyu maw is relatively hard in nature, and the best quality is pale yellow in color. Insect-damaged and gray-black ones are inferior.

3. Nutritional value

Fish maw has very high nutritional value, containing abundant protein and fat. Its main nutrients are viscous colloidal high-grade protein and polysaccharide substances. According to measurements, every 100 grams of dried fish maw contains 84.4 protein, 0.2 grams of fat, 0.2 grams of fat, 50 mg of calcium, 29 mg of phosphorus, and 2.6 grams of iron fish maw. It can also be used to treat boils, swelling and pain, nameless swelling and toxin, skin cracks, malignant tumors; soreness and pain in the lower back, rheumatic back pain, stomach disease, pulmonary tuberculosis, whooping cough, vomiting blood, aplastic anemia, impotence, bronchitis, and maternal uterine bleeding and postpartum abdominal pain and other conditions. It has relatively good therapeutic effects on kidney stones, gastric and duodenal ulcers, rheumatic heart disease, gynecological daidai and irregular menstruation, etc. Fish swim bladder can also be used as capsule shells and adhesives. The high-viscosity gelatin or yellow croaker glue made from fish swim bladder reaches as high as 95%.

Guangyu has very high nutritional value and is also rich in nutrients such as protein and collagen, but its price is also relatively expensive. If conditions permit, Guangyu can be eaten in moderation to beautify the skin and enhance immunity.
