Why Passion Fruit Leaves Curl and How to Fix It
In recent years, the passion fruit market has been in short supply, and more and more fruit growers have started planting it. During the growing process, you may notice passion fruit leaves curling. Below, the editor brings you a related introduction to passion fruit leaves curling.
1. Control methods for passion fruit leaves curling
Passion fruit leaves curling is mainly caused by aphid damage and viruses. You can spray the leaves with a mixture of fungicide and 500-times diluted Xin Gaozhi film, evenly spraying the leaves, flower buds and fruit, until water droplets drip down; spray again after one week. If there is still no improvement, spray again after another 7 days. At the same time, control the supply of nitrogen fertilizer, apply more organic fertilizer and phosphorus-potassium fertilizer, and spray Zhuangguodiling on the leaves.
2. The growing environment of passion fruit
1. Temperature
The most suitable growing temperature for passion fruit is 20°C to 30°C. It generally grows well at temperatures not lower than 0°C. At -2°C the plant will be severely damaged or even die. Areas with an average annual temperature above 18°C are most suitable for planting and are likely to achieve high yields. Therefore, it is widely distributed in the warm and humid regions of southern China, especially in Hainan.
2. Water
Passion fruit grows best when the annual rainfall is between 1500 and 2000 mm and evenly distributed, while areas developed for commercial planting should have no less than 1000 mm. Passion fruit is fairly drought-tolerant, but if drought occurs, irrigation is still needed. If the soil is too dry, it will affect vine and fruit development; in severe cases the branches will appear withered, the fruit will not develop, and fruit drop will occur. During the rainy season, pay attention to drainage.
3. Light
As a tropical fruit, passion fruit likes ample sunlight to promote vine growth and nutrient accumulation. Long-day conditions are favorable for passion fruit flowering. In areas with 2300 to 2800 annual sunshine hours, passion fruit has good vegetative growth, accumulates more nutrients, grows vines quickly, sets fruit early and yields abundantly. The most suitable growing temperature is 20°C to 30°C. It generally grows well at temperatures not lower than 0°C, and at -2°C the plant will be severely damaged or even die.
4. Soil
Passion fruit is highly adaptable and does not have high soil requirements. However, for large-scale production, the soil layer should be at least 0.5 m deep, and the soil should be fertile, loose and well-drained, with a soil pH of 5.5 to 6.5 being suitable.
Passion fruit leaves curling is a common pest and disease issue. If you encounter this situation, do not panic; just do a good job of prevention and control.
