We all know that plants need fertilizing during the growing process, and among the nutrients, boron is one of the essential nutrient elements for plants. So, what kind of fertilizer is boron fertilizer? How is it applied?

1. What kind of fertilizer is boron fertilizer?

Boron fertilizer is a fertilizer with a stated boron content whose main function is to provide plant nutrients; conventional boron fertilizer refers to boron chemical products based mainly on borax, boric acid and boron-magnesium fertilizer, used as a trace element fertilizer for agriculture.

2. How is boron fertilizer applied?

Boron fertilizer can be used as a base fertilizer, seed fertilizer and top dressing. When used as a base fertilizer, it can be mixed evenly with nitrogen fertilizer and phosphorus fertilizer and applied together, or applied alone, but care must be taken to apply it evenly so as to avoid toxicity from excessively high local concentrations; on boron-deficient soil, 0.5-1 kg of boron fertilizer can be applied per mu, and the fertilizer effect usually lasts 3-5 years; when used as a seed fertilizer, seeds can be soaked for 6-12 hours in a 0.01%-0.1% concentration aqueous solution of borax or boric acid; for cereals and vegetables a 0.01%-0.03% solution can be used, and for rice a 0.1% solution can be used; when seed dressing, use 0.4-1 gram of borax or boric acid per kilogram of seed; when used as a foliar top dressing, a 0.1%-0.2% concentration solution of borax or boric acid can be sprayed, generally when the crop shifts from the vegetative growth stage to the reproductive growth stage, that is, around the flowering period of the crop.

Although boron fertilizer has a great effect on plants, care must be taken not to apply it in excessive amounts, and the application must be even; the type of crop must also be taken into consideration when applying it.
