When Is the Oil Peony Blooming Season? A Full Analysis of Its Flowering Time
Oil peony flowers also belong to the peony family, but their main purpose differs from that of ornamental peonies, as they are grown to flower, pollinate and bear fruit. So when is the oil peony blooming season?
1. Oil peony blooming season
Oil peonies generally bloom during the period from February to May. Because the climate varies from place to place, the planting time also differs, and so does the blooming season. The blooming times of oil peonies across the country are as follows:
Northeast China (Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning): mid-May on the Gregorian calendar
North China (Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia): mid to late April on the Gregorian calendar
Central China (Hubei, Hunan, Henan, Jiangxi): early April on the Gregorian calendar
South China (Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan): mid-February on the Gregorian calendar
East China (Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Shanghai): late March and early April on the Gregorian calendar
Northwest China (Ningxia, Xinjiang, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Gansu): late April and early May on the Gregorian calendar
Southwest China (Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Tibet, Chongqing): late February and early March on the Gregorian calendar
2. How long does the oil peony blooming season last
1. Oil peonies take about 20 days from the start of blooming to the end;
2. If the temperature keeps rising throughout the blooming period, the blooming season will be relatively shorter; if the temperature fluctuates up and down by no more than 3 degrees, the blooming season will last longer;
3. If rainy weather occurs in the middle of it, the blooming season will shrink rapidly, and there may even be only a 7~10 day blooming season.
The oil peony blooming season is determined by the planting time.
