Verbena is a perennial herbaceous plant, and its blue-purple flowers are often mistaken for lavender. It often grows along roadsides, hillsides, streamsides, or forest edges from low to high altitudes. So do you know when the flowering season of verbena is? How do you grow it?

When is the flowering season of verbena?

The flowering season of verbena is from June to October, and the flowers are blue-purple. It is widely distributed across most of East China, South China, and Southwest China, and the whole plant can be used medicinally.

How do you grow verbena?

1. Site selection

The soil suitable for verbena growth must be deep, loose, and fertile. After the land is selected, it must be plowed and fertilized. Usually, farmyard manure is the main choice for base fertilizer.

2. Sowing

The sowing time for verbena is usually between April and May. When sowing, be sure to pay attention to the planting density and do not plant too many. Generally, the row spacing is 25-30cm, the ditch depth is 15-20cm, and the amount used per mu is 15-20kg.

3. Field management

After the seedlings emerge, thinning should be done well. Loosen the soil while weeding, and properly earth up around the roots. Water promptly when the soil is too dry. In addition, pay attention to field drainage during the rainy season, and loosen the soil promptly after rain to prevent surface soil crusting from affecting plant growth.

Generally, if field management is done well during the verbena planting process, pests and diseases will rarely occur.
