A Detailed Guide to Black Balado Grape Cultivation Techniques
Black Balado grape is a hybrid grape, deeply loved by people for its thin skin, crisp flesh and sweet taste. It can currently be grown in some regions, so what are the Black Balado grape cultivation techniques?
1. Greenhouse construction: build a 60*60 m multi-span plastic greenhouse, erect a ridge 3.5mi high, and use arch rods to strengthen the load-bearing capacity of the greenhouse body.
2. Seedling selection: Black Balado has weak growth vigor, so grafted seedlings such as SO4, 5BB and 1103P are recommended to improve growth vigor.
3. Seedling planting: planting in March in spring is best. Before planting, apply 5 jin of decomposed organic fertilizer per mu, and deep-plow to mature the soil, then dig field beds 25cm high at a row spacing of 3 m. Then plant the seedlings on the field beds at a row-to-plant spacing of 1*3 m, then cover with soil, water, and cover with film.
4. Management techniques after planting:
(1) New shoot management. After the grapes are planted and sprout, when one true leaf appears, begin bud removal; when the new shoots grow to 25-30 cm high, tie them to bamboo poles. When the new shoots grow to 40-50 cm high, carry out the first pinching; after pinching, select one strong summer bud secondary shoot as the extension shoot to extend upward, and the summer buds issued below are repeatedly pinched while keeping 1 leaf. And promptly tie them onto the trellis. When the new shoots grow to 1.5 m high, carry out the second pinching; after pinching, when the secondary shoots issued from the top grow to 4 leaves, pinch them.
(2) Fertilization management. In rainy seasons, apply more bio-organic fertilizer and residue fertilizer; in dry weather, mainly apply residue fertilizer and manure water, combined with bio-organic fertilizer.
(3) Training and pruning: in early spring, remove the overly dense and overly weak young buds on the new grape branches and trunks; when the new shoots grow to 15-20 cm, carry out shoot setting, and it is more suitable to keep the distance between shoots at 10-15 cm. Generally, on average, each fruiting mother branch is pinched while keeping 2-5 leaves, retaining only 1 secondary shoot at the top, and the remaining secondary shoots are repeatedly pinched while keeping 1 leaf.
(4) Fruit setting and bagging. Determine the fruit load according to tree vigor and variety characteristics; generally the fruit load can be determined by a leaf-to-fruit ratio of 1:1. Then carry out fruit bagging to effectively prevent disease and pest damage and improve the external quality of the fruit.
(5) Disease and pest control: when the new shoots grow to 15-20 cm high, 50% wettable powder at 800 times or 70% mancozeb at 600 times solution can be used to control grape downy mildew, anthracnose, black pox, white rot, black rot, brown spot, etc. Later, simply spray an appropriate amount of pesticide according to the tree vigor.
Overall, Black Balado grapes are still quite easy to grow, similar to the cultivation methods of other grapes; for specifics, refer to the methods above for planting.
