When is the kiwifruit flowering period generally?
Kiwifruit is the king of fruits, with great market demand, and many people in our country are growing it. To grow fruit of good quality, you must take good care of its flowering period. So, when is the kiwifruit flowering period? How do you care for it?
1. Kiwifruit flowering period
The timing of the kiwifruit flowering period varies depending on temperature, variety and environment, and is generally concentrated in April to June.
2. Management during the kiwifruit flowering period
1. Pre-flowering pruning: when new shoots have grown to more than 15-20cm and flower clusters begin to appear, proper thinning of branches should be carried out to ensure ventilation and light penetration and the activity of pollinating insects. On the flower clusters of fruiting canes, leave 3-4 leaves and pinch off the tips.
2. Bud thinning: this can be carried out when the growth of fruiting canes exceeds 50 cm, or about 15 days after the lateral flower buds separate. Focus on removing deformed buds, weak buds, diseased and pest-damaged buds, as well as flower buds at the base of fruiting canes and overly dense flower buds.
3. Pollination: artificial assisted pollination can be used. Collect newly opened male flowers, remove the anthers from the stamens and collect the pollen. After one quarter of the flowers on the whole tree have opened, pollinate while avoiding midday; bees can also be introduced.
3. Fertilization: one week before flowering, apply pre-flowering fertilizer according to the tree's condition, generally mainly nitrogen and potassium. When the flowers fade and fruit begins to set, pay attention to applying fruit-strengthening fertilizer, mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and during this period pay attention to supplementing trace elements.
4. Water: during the kiwifruit flowering period, soil moisture should be controlled at about 80%. On dry and hot days, water the whole orchard once before flowering; if there is a lot of rain during the flowering period, then strengthen drainage.
Only by carefully tending fruit trees during their flowering period can the fruit set later be large and good.
