When Is the Blooming Season of Roses? A Detailed Guide to Their Flowering Time
The rose is an ornamental flower that is both fragrant and colorful. It can be trained to climb on trellises into various forms, or controlled into a small shrub shape. The blooms come in large and small sizes, with double and single flower forms, and a wide range of colors. So, when is the blooming season of roses?
1. The blooming season of roses
The blooming season of roses is generally from April to September each year. The flowers on each branch open in sequence, and the flowering period can last as long as half a year. Due to the greenhouse effect, roses in some places open earlier, with some blooming as early as March. Rose flowers grow at the tips of the branches. The blooms come in large and small sizes, with double and single flower forms, and colors including white, yellow, pink, red, and purple-black, and they generally all have a fragrance.
2. How to care for roses during the blooming season?
1. Plenty of light: Rose flowers love sunlight. In the early stage of blooming, they should be kept outdoors in a spot with plenty of sunlight. If you want to move them indoors, do so once the top 1/3 of the flowers on the plant have opened, placing them in a spot indoors with ample light.
2. A humid environment: Rose flowers generally bloom in summer, and since summer temperatures are high, moisture evaporates quickly. You can use a spray bottle to mist the leaves of the rose flowers to maintain the humidity they need.
3. Avoid getting rained on: During the blooming period, rose flowers should be kept from being rained on, because their blooms are very delicate and are prone to fading in color after rain, which affects the viewing effect.
4. Timely topdressing: Rose flowers like fertilizer. During the blooming period, apply a phosphorus and potassium fertilizer about once every half a month to encourage more buds and more blooms. After flowering, apply a rejuvenation fertilizer once, and then no further fertilizing is needed.
5. Pruning spent flowers: After the rose flowers fade, cut off the spent blooms, and also cut off all the flowering branches, keeping 2-3 buds. For new branches, the top branches need to be cut off. On old branches that are 2 years or older and have borne flowers, if new branches have sprouted, cut off the old branches.
