Chaenomeles speciosa, also known as Chaenomeles lagenaria (wrinkled papaya), is an ornamental flowering plant with very beautiful blooms, and many people like to keep a pot of it at home, so what are the cultivation methods for Chaenomeles speciosa?

1. Soil: Chaenomeles speciosa has low soil requirements, generally only needing well-drained, fertile, humus-rich, slightly acidic or neutral soil.

2. Temperature: Chaenomeles speciosa likes warmth but is not very cold-tolerant; the suitable temperature is 15-25 degrees, and in winter it needs to be kept above 3 degrees so it does not get frostbitten.

3. Light: Chaenomeles speciosa likes light but is not tolerant of strong light; generally during the growing period and flowering period it has relatively high light requirements, so during this stage it needs to be placed in a spot with plenty of diffused light. If high summer temperatures occur, it should be shaded appropriately. In addition, in winter, although its growth rate is not fast, it still should not be placed in a very dark place in order to get through the winter.

4. Watering: Chaenomeles speciosa is neither drought-tolerant nor tolerant of waterlogging; generally, from May to October, the soil needs to be kept moist. In addition, try to spray a little water every day. However, starting in late autumn, watering needs to be controlled.

5. Fertilizing: Chaenomeles speciosa needs fertilizing in all four seasons; when it sprouts in spring, organic fertilizer should be applied; during the summer growing period, compound fertilizer should be added; when it sheds leaves in autumn, additional fertilizer should be applied to ensure the plant's nutrient balance, and in winter enough decomposed cake fertilizer or bone meal should be applied. Generally, an interval of half a month is better.

6. Pest and disease control: During the growth period of Chaenomeles speciosa, pests and diseases such as leaf blight, rust, pear lace bug, and peach aphid are likely to appear. If leaf blight occurs, thiophanate-methyl and similar treatments can be used, and at the same time density needs to be controlled and pruning carried out.

Overall, Chaenomeles speciosa is still quite easy to grow; as long as the temperature is kept at 15-25 degrees, the soil is kept moist without water accumulating, and fertilizer is suitable, it is fine. In spring, autumn, and winter, give it enough light, and in summer shade it appropriately.
