What to Do When Vegetables Get Bugs? A Detailed Guide to Practical Control Methods
Many people nowadays are willing to grow a few small vegetables at home themselves, but problems always arise during the growing process. If the vegetables you planted have bugs, what should you do?
What to do when the vegetables you planted have bugs
1. If there are few bugs on the vegetables, you can directly pick them off with your hands or other tools, and be sure to check the front and back of the leaves.
2. If the planting area is large or there are many bugs, you can use an appropriate amount of insecticide.
3. If you pursue green, pollution-free produce and are unwilling to spray chemicals, you can also mix up some insect-killing “remedies” yourself.
(1) Chili water: Add water to chili powder and boil it, then let it cool, then dilute with water at a ratio of 1:4. Once mixed, spray it on the front and back of the leaves. It can eliminate aphids, red spider mites, whiteflies, cabbage caterpillars, and so on.
(2) Garlic water: Crush garlic and soak it in water for twelve hours, then spray the filtered water directly on the vegetables. It can get rid of nematodes and ants. The crushed garlic can be buried in the soil.
(3) Tobacco water: Soak tobacco shreds in water for one day, then after filtering, spray the tobacco water directly on the leaf surfaces and around the soil. It can prevent ants, nematodes, aphids, red spider mites, and so on.
(4) Wood ash water: Mix a small amount of wood ash with water, stir evenly, let it stand for 3 hours, then filter and use. Wood ash is rich in silicon and can prevent disease and repel insects.
4. By using the method of controlling pests with insects, we can also catch some ladybugs and other insects that specifically eat pests and put them in the vegetable garden.
When growing vegetables, you must be patient and careful. If you find insect eggs or small bugs, remove them promptly to avoid a large-scale pest outbreak.
