Persian buttercup generally refers to the perennial herbaceous flower Ranunculus asiaticus (gèn), also known as celery flower, Persian crowfoot, and lotus of the land. It is often cultivated in various places as a cut flower, potted plant, and spring flower exhibition. Below, we will introduce the cultivation methods for Persian buttercup.

What are the cultivation methods for Persian buttercup?

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Persian buttercup is afraid of both moisture and drought, and is suitable for planting in well-drained, fertile, loose, neutral or slightly alkaline soil. Before planting, carry out land preparation, raking, and disinfection, and apply an appropriate amount of base fertilizer.

2. Planting

If dividing clumps, it is best done in September to October. When planting, split the tuberous roots with rhizomes apart and plant them, with the planting depth just enough to cover the root crown. Before emergence, control watering and keep the soil moist; sowing is suitable from mid-October to mid-November, and the seeds should be soaked and germinated before sowing. Once some seeds have sprouted, they can be sown, with a thickness of 0.2-0.3 cm being appropriate.

3. Final planting

When the Persian buttercup seedlings have grown 3-4 true leaves, carry out final planting, around mid-December to mid-January. When lifting seedlings for transplanting, be careful to remove diseased and weak-growing seedlings, and keep the planting spacing at about 10 cm between plants and rows.

4. Field management

After final planting, water thoroughly the first time, then water promptly afterward and pay attention to balance, and do not let it become too dry or too wet. In the early stage of cultivation, mainly use urea, and in the later stage mainly use compound fertilizer, applying once every 7 days. In addition, pay attention to preventing and controlling pests and diseases such as blue mold, southern blight, root rot, leafminer, aphids, and whiteflies. Spray pesticides in advance and do a good job of prevention and control.

When the stems and leaves of Persian buttercup have completely withered and turned yellow, harvest it promptly. After harvesting, handle the tuberous roots properly and store them promptly.
