The straw mushroom, also called the orchid mushroom, is mainly distributed in southern China. The straw mushroom is rich in nutrients and delicious in taste, and is a common dish in the home. Nowadays there are also quite a few people who grow straw mushrooms, so what are the key points of control measures for Trichoderma on straw mushrooms?

1. The symptoms of Trichoderma on straw mushrooms

In the early stage of infection with Trichoderma, white cottony masses grow on the straw mushrooms, which inhibit the growth of the mycelium and later turn green. Once straw mushrooms are harmed by Trichoderma, they can only be discarded; even a mild infection cannot be kept and must be removed immediately.

2. The pathogen of Trichoderma on straw mushrooms

Trichoderma is commonly known as green mold. It belongs to the Deuteromycotina, Moniliales, genus Trichoderma. Common Trichoderma species include Trichoderma harzianum, Trichoderma viride, and others.

3. The disease characteristics of Trichoderma on straw mushrooms

Trichoderma has a relatively strong ability to decompose cellulose, grows quickly on substrates rich in lignin and cellulose, and is relatively easy to reproduce; Trichoderma can reproduce in the plant rhizosphere and control harmful fungi by occupying space and nutrients; Trichoderma can also inhibit the proliferation of harmful fungi by secreting antibiotic substances, achieving the effect of disease control.

4. Control measures for Trichoderma on straw mushrooms

1. Preventive measures when not infected

To date, no method has been developed that can cure Trichoderma on straw mushrooms. The commonly used fungicides only have an inhibitory effect on Trichoderma and do not have the effect of killing the pathogen. Even increasing the dosage can only [affect] the straw mushroom mycelium. Therefore, after the practice of vegetable farmers, it was found that if the straw mushroom mycelium grows in a good environment, and this environment is not suitable for the growth of Trichoderma, this is the fundamental measure to control infection of the straw mushroom mycelium by Trichoderma.

2. Treatment measures after infection

If it is found that the straw mushrooms are infected with Trichoderma, the growth temperature should be lowered immediately and ventilation maintained to effectively control the deee spread of Trichoderma. If it is found that the culture material at the mycelium-running stage is infected with Trichoderma, the method of injecting medicinal liquid can be used to inhibit the expansion of Trichoderma. The commonly used medicinal liquids are: 5% carbolic acid, 2% formaldehyde, 1:200 dilution of 50% carbendazim, 75% thiophanate-methyl, and lime water with a pH value of 10. Some white lime powder can also be sprinkled on the infected area, which also has a good control effect.

Trichoderma on straw mushrooms is one of the common diseases in the production and cultivation of edible fungi, so protective measures must be strengthened to avoid such situations.
