What to Do When Leaves Turn Yellow? Find the Cause and Fix It in Time
Many people like to grow some flowers and plants at home to decorate their living space, and sometimes poor care can cause the leaves to turn yellow. So what should you do when leaves turn yellow?
What to Do When Leaves Turn Yellow
There are many reasons why leaves turn yellow, and we should adopt different methods according to the different causes.
1. Light: Direct sunlight easily causes leaves to scorch and turn scorched yellow, with the leaf margins and tips turning yellow and drying out, and the parts exposed to direct light developing yellow spots. Long-term insufficient light, on the other hand, easily leads to poor growth, with leaves turning yellow and becoming soft.
Method: Cut off the scorched, yellowed and dried leaves, place the plant in a cool spot to grow, and wait slowly for it to recover. For plants that have lacked light for a long time, move them to a place with light.
2. Water: When a plant lacks water, the old leaves turn yellow first, then yellowing spreads from top to bottom, and the leaf edges begin to wither and turn yellow. Water accumulating in the pot easily causes the roots to rot and affects absorption, which leads to yellowing leaves.
Method: If water is lacking, replenish it promptly; at this time avoid high-temperature evaporation and wait for the plant to recover. If too much water has been given, place the plant in a ventilated spot with plenty of light so the water can evaporate.
3. Iron deficiency: A plant lacking iron mainly shows yellow leaf tissue, which gradually forms a network pattern, with a more obvious effect on young leaves.
Method: Dilute ferrous sulfate with water, then spray it directly on the yellowing leaves.
4. Fertilizing: During plant care, if a plant lacks nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, the old leaves begin to turn yellow first, and then the new leaves also turn yellow. Applying too much fertilizer can also cause yellowing due to excess nutrients.
Method: Apply an appropriate amount of dilute rotted fertilizer or compound fertilizer to meet the plant's demand for nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium during growth. If too much has been applied, water it to dilute it, or replant.
5. Soil: If the soil is unsuitable for the plant, yellow leaves can also appear.
Method: Improve the pH, or replant.
6. Temperature and humidity: A growing environment that is too dry, or high temperatures that cause a large amount of evaporation, can easily make leaves turn yellow. Plants that cannot tolerate cold are easily damaged by freezing at low temperatures, and their leaves turn yellow and wither.
Method: In a high-temperature environment, spray water near the plant to maintain the surrounding humidity. In summer, pay attention to sun protection and cooling; in winter, pay attention to keeping warm.
To grow a plant, you need to adjust the various growing conditions according to the preferences of its variety; only in this way can you grow a healthy plant. At the same time, when bad symptoms appear, you should promptly apply the right remedy.
