In most cases, an orchid blooms only once a year, while a small number of varieties bloom multiple times a year. It also requires careful management to bloom; otherwise, the orchid may not bloom at all. To get an orchid to bloom more, you need to strengthen its care. The main care techniques are as follows:

1. When an Orchid Is Adjusting to Its Pot, Be Cautious Above All

When an orchid is in the stage of adjusting to its pot, it is usually because it has just been potted or its rotten roots have just been treated. During this period, we must treat it cautiously, as a slight carelessness can cause the orchid to die. Therefore, during the pot-adjustment period, do not do 2 things. The first thing is that right after the orchid is potted, you must not water it immediately. Wait two days before watering. If the potting soil is dry, you can spray a little water to keep the soil surface moist.

Fertilizing is very dangerous during an orchid's pot-adjustment period; 95% of the time it will suffer harm, that is, root burn. Therefore, no fertilizing is allowed during the pot-adjustment period. Wait until the orchid sprouts new growth points, then apply an organic liquid orchid fertilizer, diluted with water at 1:1300 and poured onto the roots, once every 15 days.

2. Fertilizing Orchids: Better Weak Than Strong

During their growing period, orchids need extra nutrients supplied through fertilizer. The fertilizers used are usually homemade flower fertilizers, such as rice-washing water and bones from daily life. These can all be used to grow orchids; you just need to pay attention to how they are used.

In general, rice-washing water must be fermented before use. Usually it is put into a bottle (with a few holes poked in the lid) and fermented for 1 month, after which it is ready, and it can be used once every 12 days. Bones can be ground into powder, mixed with water at 10 times the volume, put into an empty bottle and fermented for 30 days, after which it is ready to use, once every 10 days. But note one thing: when using them, they must not be too concentrated. Rice-washing water must be diluted with more than 30 times its volume of water, and bone fertilizer must be further diluted with 20 times its volume of water before it can be poured onto the roots.

3. Watering Orchids: Never Give Half-Watering

Insert a few slender wooden sticks into the potting soil, wait 15-20 minutes, then gently pull them out and observe carefully. If wet soil clings to the tips of the sticks, it means the potting soil still holds moisture and does not need watering. If no wet soil clings to the tips, it means the potting soil has dried out completely and needs a thorough watering. After watering, wait about 5 minutes; if you see water flowing out from the bottom, it means the watering was thorough.

Although orchid blooms are beautiful, only careful care will make them flower. If you like more blooms, you can choose some varieties that can bloom multiple times, and with careful care, they can bloom several times a year.
