1. Yellow Tea Producing Areas

The main yellow tea producing areas are Yueyang, Hunan; Yuan'an County, Hubei; Ya'an, Sichuan; Huoshan County, Anhui; Pingyang, Taishun, and Rui'an, Zhejiang; and Shaoguan, Zhaoqing, and Zhanjiang, Guangdong.

2. Types of Yellow Tea

According to the tenderness of the tea leaves and the size of the buds and leaves, yellow tea can be divided into three categories: yellow bud tea, yellow small tea, and yellow large tea.

Yellow bud tea mainly includes Junshan Yinzhen, Mengding Huangya, Huoshan Huangya, and Wenzhou Huangtang;

Yellow small tea mainly includes Beigang Maojian, Weishan Maojian, Yuan'an Luyuan Tea, Wanxi Huangxiao Tea, Pingyang Huangtang, Zigui Yellow Tea, and others;

Yellow large tea includes Wanxi Huangda Tea, Jinzhai Huangda Tea, Guangdong Dayeqing, Haimagong Tea, and others.

The special “menhuang” (yellowing) process creates its unique three-yellow quality characteristics: “yellow dry tea, yellow liquor, and yellow infused leaves.” Although yellow tea production is not as high as that of green tea, black tea, and dark tea, many of its teas are regarded as treasures among teas for their excellent quality and beautiful appearance.

Yellow tea is unique to China. Friends who are interested can choose a variety, brew a pot themselves, and savor it slowly.
