What season is generally most suitable for composting?
In agricultural production, composting and manure-making are needed to provide crops with better nutrition. In what season is composting carried out?
1. What season is composting carried out in
Composting is carried out in all four seasons of the year, and is generally concentrated in winter; the purpose of composting is to prepare enough high-quality fertilizer for the next season's crops.
2. What to pay attention to when composting in winter
1. To promote the heating and decomposition of the manure pile, the manure pile for storing compost in winter should be appropriately enlarged. Generally 3-4 m in diameter and 2 m high, or a rectangular manure pile 2 m high, 1.5-2 m wide and 4 m long. If the compost pile is too narrow, heat will be lost, which leads to slow decomposition and poor quality fertilizer.
2. When composting in winter, the surrounding sides and the top of the manure pile should also be covered with soil and sealed with mud. You can cover it with 1 layer of soil or 1 layer of wheat straw mud, which can keep water from entering the pile, prevent hot air from escaping, and block the volatilization loss of nitrogen.
3. During winter composting, ash manure must be stored separately. Ash manure, that is, plant ash, is an alkaline fertilizer. Mixing it with manure fertilizer will cause a sharp drop in the nitrogen content of the manure fertilizer.
4. Mixing 2%-3% superphosphate or more than 5% rock phosphate powder into the manure pile for mixed storage can have a significant nitrogen-preserving effect.
Only when composting and manure piling are done well can the next year's crops have high-quality fertilizer to absorb, further increasing yields.
