When do peach blossoms bloom in Nyingchi? A detailed guide to the flowering period
Nyingchi peach blossoms generally open from mid-March to late April, and Nyingchi also holds a Peach Blossom Festival. Nyingchi peach blossoms are highland peach blossoms; in many places peach blossoms bloom at the foot of the mountains, while snow peaks rise above, giving a flavor all its own.
1. Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival
Every year at that time, winter in Tibet has not yet shed its silver mantle, yet the peach blossoms of Nyingchi, the Jiangnan of Tibet, have already bloomed like the beautiful highland flush on a Tibetan girl's cheeks, vying in splendor like rosy clouds drunk with sunset. They not only let people admire the unique and charming scenery of the “Snowy Jiangnan”, but also let people appreciate the most romantic and most beautiful spring in Tibet. The “Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival” will grandly open on April 1, 2012, and at that time there will also be a grand “Tenth Anniversary Opening Ceremony”, “Love You, Watch Peach Blossoms with You in Nyingchi” (heart stirring, emotions stirring, action stirring), “Meet in Nyingchi, Seek the Most Beautiful Spring” photography exhibition, photography tours, the second “Gongbu Drolma” selection, and other wonderful activities. In addition, every year in October, the Nyingchi region also holds the largest-scale and most richly folk-custom “Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon Cultural Tourism Festival”.
Every year in the eleventh month of the Gregorian calendar, the first day of the tenth month of the Tibetan calendar, is the New Year of the Gongbu Tibetans, called Gongbu New Year. Folk activities such as inviting the dog to the feast, eating “Jieda” and the reunion dinner, and sacrificing to the goddess of harvest will all be staged wonderfully. In addition, there are unique New Year entertainment activities such as singing, dancing, wrestling, stone lifting, tree chopping, and horse racing and archery, among which the Gongbu whistling arrow is widely known. And every year in March, when the first peach blossom in Tibet begins to bloom in Nyingchi, the “Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival”, the most important part of Tibet tourism, will raise its curtain in Nyingchi.
2. Festival Features
In March in Nyingchi, the chill has not yet gone, but it is already a sea of flowers. The distant snow peaks still have glistening white snow, and the peach blossoms already vie in splendor like rosy clouds drunk with sunset. The tender pink peach blossoms are infinitely delicate in the embrace of the imposing snow mountains. The alluring peach blossoms, reflected against the azure sky, are too beautiful to take in. Most wild peaches in Tibet belong to the mao tao (wild peach), with tall tree shapes and thick trunks, whose momentum resembles lush wutong trees. The flowers of the mao tao are relatively small, mostly pink or deep red, not as large in flower shape as bitao and jiangtao, but very dense, packed tightly, giving a swarming feeling of thousands upon thousands. The poet Wang Xinjian joyfully wrote the beautiful lines: “Where can one enjoy pure joy? Nyingchi's sky is bluer. Red clouds linger in the snow valley, pink mist fills the wheat fields. Beneath the slanting sun of the golden mountain, before the ancient village with colored banners. Brewing tea at the corner of the Nyang River, cleansing the heart to await a fateful encounter.”
Gala Peach Blossom Village in Nyingchi is the first choice for enjoying peach blossoms in March. On the slopes on both banks of the Nyang River, peach groves and wheat fields set each other off; in Nyingchi Peach Blossom Valley, surrounded by mountains on three sides, streams pour down from the mountaintop, and the banks of the ravine are covered with wild peach trees, which can only be viewed from afar and not played with up close. In the Nyingchi region, the annually held Tibet Nyingchi Matsutake Food Culture Festival and the Basum Lake Gongbu Folk Culture Tourism Festival lead hundreds of thousands of tourists away from the noise of the city to come here among green mountains, clear waters and white clouds to watch ethnic songs and dances, experience distinctive folk customs, taste a grand feast of Nyingchi matsutake, and feel the celebration of the festival, the beauty among the mountains and waters, and nature and harmony.
Every year from March to April, the Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival is held. If you are a friend who likes to look at peach blossoms, you can choose to travel during the Peach Blossom Festival, and the scenery will surely be too beautiful to take in.
