Golden camellia has golden flowers that are dazzling and brilliant, and it is one of the national first-class protected plants. It is mainly distributed in Guangxi, Yunnan and other provinces. It is also called the magical Oriental magic tea abroad, and is known as "the giant panda of the plant world" and "the queen of the tea family". To cultivate high-yield and high-quality golden camellia, planting techniques are crucial. So let us discuss how golden camellia should be cultivated.

1. Plot selection

Golden camellia is a moisture-loving plant and does not have strong drought tolerance, so when choosing a planting plot, the surrounding moisture conditions need to be fully considered to ensure soil humidity. However, a soil environment with long-term standing water is also unfavorable for the planting and growth of golden camellia, so the land more suitable for planting golden camellia should be fertile, loose in texture, and have good drainage performance, and it is best to be at a position where the soil pH is 5.5-6.

2. Seedling selection and cultivation

In the process of planting golden camellia, the selection and cultivation of seedlings are particularly critical. Seedlings that are 2-3 years old and have more than 5 roots should be selected for planting. After planting is completed, soil should be mounded over them in time, the surrounding soil should be compacted, and enough water should be watered to settle the roots.

3. Post-planting management

After golden camellia is planted, management work is also indispensable. General tasks include hoeing weeds, fertilizing and pruning. Timely hoeing of weeds can prevent weeds from absorbing water and nutrients from the soil, thereby ensuring favorable growth conditions for golden camellia. Second, golden camellia is a fertilizer-loving plant, so later management must ensure sufficient base fertilizer. In the process of fertilizing, certain principles can also be followed, such as applying thinly but frequently, applying more to strong seedlings, and applying less or not at all to weak seedlings. Finally, golden camellia also needs pruning. During pruning, some details need attention. For example, for golden camellia with a relatively even crown development, it is only necessary to cut off its diseased and pest-infested branches, overly dense branches, weak branches and leggy branches; for newly transplanted seedlings, moderate pruning can be carried out.

4. Prevention and treatment of pests and diseases

The main pests that induce disease in golden camellia include tea aphids, leaf rollers, tea tussock moths and so on. When golden camellia suffers pest damage, comprehensive control is needed, based on the combined application of chemical and biological methods; on one hand, this can effectively eliminate dead branches and diseased leaves and prevent damage to golden camellia from sources of infestation; on the other hand, it can also enhance the disease resistance of golden camellia. Common diseases of golden camellia include anthracnose, sooty mold, leaf blight, bud blight and so on. For example, when golden camellia is damaged by anthracnose, 80% carbendazim wettable powder and 50% thiophanate can be used, spraying it once a week for 3 consecutive times to obtain a relatively good effect.
