Wintersweet is a very beautiful ornamental flowering plant, commonly grown in courtyards and outdoors. The spirit of wintersweet, which does not fear wind and snow, is also worth learning from, so wintersweet is also a symbol of tenacity and noble purity, and is deeply loved by people. So when are wintersweet seeds generally sown? How are they planted?

1. When are wintersweet seeds generally sown?

Wintersweet seeds are sown in spring, because this is the season when all things revive. Of course, wintersweet seeds can also be sown in autumn, preferably in July-August,

2. How are wintersweet seeds planted?

Wintersweet seeds can of course be sown, but because the seed coat of wintersweet seeds is very thick, the seeds germinate very slowly after sowing. That year Science Xingnong also once planted wintersweet seeds. At the time, because I did not understand issues such as forcing germination, they did not germinate at all after sowing, and it was not until the spring of the following year that the wintersweet seeds germinated. However, the wintersweet I planted myself was grown for three years and still did not bloom, and in the end my father pulled it up. This incident also shows that our wintersweet seeds not only germinate slowly enough, but the wintersweet seedlings also grow very slowly.

Wintersweet seeds are best harvested after the fruit ripens in July-August. Remove the seeds from the fruit receptacle, mix the seeds with New High Lipid Film, and sow them at any time. If the seeds are first soaked in warm water before sowing, germination can be promoted. After the seedlings emerge in April, pay attention to preventing damage from soil cutworms, and strengthen management; shading is not necessary. The seedlings grow slowly, reaching only 10—15 cm in height in the current year. Sowing can be used to raise large quantities of wintersweet rootstock, but it requires a relatively long growing period.

3. Key points for caring for potted wintersweet

1. Watering

For wintersweet, watering at ordinary times is best done to maintain the soil in a semi-moist state. In the rainy season, pay attention to drainage to prevent waterlogging in the soil. In dry seasons, replenish water in time. During the flowering period, keep the soil moderately dry, and do not water too much. For potted wintersweet in spring and autumn, do not water until the potting soil is dry; in summer, water once in the morning and once in the evening every day, with the amount controlled according to whether the potting soil is dry or wet.

2. Fertilizing

For potted wintersweet, no additional fertilizer water is applied in the early stage after potting. In spring, apply leaf-developing fertilizer. After the flowers fade each year, apply a fully decomposed organic fertilizer once. From the growth season after new leaves sprout in spring until June, apply decomposed cake fertilizer water once every 10-15 days; during the flower bud differentiation period in July-August, apply a mixed liquid of decomposed organic fertilizer and phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. After autumn, apply organic fertilizer once more. After each fertilizing, water and loosen the soil in time to keep the soil loose. Do not fertilize during the flowering period.

3. Supplementary pruning after flowering

For wintersweet, thin out aged branches, dead branches, overly dense branches, and leggy branches, and cut back weakened main branches or branch groups. For main branches that are too high, too long, or too vigorous, cut back to a relatively large, moderately vigorous, obliquely growing branch, and let a weak branch lead, so as to control branch height, branch length, and branch vigor. Shorten one-year-old branches: leave 30-40 cm when pruning the extension branch of the main branch, leave 10-20 cm for other relatively strong branches, and leave a pair of buds or thin out weak branches. After the flowers fade, remove the residual flowers in time.
