Cosmos is a flower with a beautiful flower shape and brilliant colors, commonly planted in parks and on lawns, and now also widely grown in pots, because it is easy to grow and beautifies the environment, making it deeply loved by flower growers. So is Cosmos the same as Gesang flower? How do you grow it so it thrives?

1. Is Cosmos the same as Gesang flower?

Cosmos is not Gesang flower. Many people mistake Cosmos for Gesang flower, but Cosmos has a different name in Tibetan areas, where it is called “Zhang Daren flower”. So everyone who thinks Cosmos is Gesang flower is wrong.

Gesang flower is also called “Gesang Meiduo”. In Tibetan, “Gesang” means good times or happiness, and “Meiduo” means flower, so Gesang flower is also the “flower of happiness”.

2. How do you grow Cosmos so it thrives?

1. Planting time

Cosmos is sown in early spring, blooms from May to June, and in August to September, when the weather is hot and rainy, it blooms less. After the autumn cools down, it continues to bloom until the first frost. If sown in July to August, it will bloom in October, and the plants will be short and neat. Cosmos seeds have the ability to self-sow; once planted, a large number of self-sown seedlings will appear afterward, and with a little protection they can bloom as usual. It can be sown in open-ground beds in mid-April, and if the temperature is suitable, the seedlings will emerge in about 6 to 7 days.

2. Suitable soil

For Cosmos, the most suitable soil for its growth is one where the soil layer is relatively loose and the organic matter content in the soil is very high. So before sowing, we must add a certain amount of base fertilizer to the soil, and after sowing the seeds, try to firm up the soil area as much as possible, because this allows good contact with the soil and also helps its rooting and sprouting. Of course, after sowing, be sure to water it once first, and the water should be given thoroughly, so that the temperature and humidity in the soil can reach an environment suitable for its growth, and the germination rate and seedling rate will be relatively improved.

3. A suitable flower pot

The growth of every kind of flower cannot be separated from a flower pot suitable for it. Of course, Cosmos is very beautiful when planted in large patches, but if you want to grow it successfully at home, you must choose a relatively attractive flower pot, because its plant is relatively small, so when planting, everyone should preferably choose a larger container or flower pot, so that the effect of growing it is even better and a certain degree of ornamental value can be added. At the same time, the pot's breathability and water storage capacity must also be good. Never choose those plastic types, because such flower pots basically have no water storage capacity at all, and sometimes they will also affect the growth of Cosmos. Everyone still needs to grasp this point.

4. Management during the growth period

Throughout the entire growth stage of Cosmos, there are still many aspects everyone needs to pay attention to, because its roots are relatively fine and the plant is especially thin and weak, so Cosmos is not wind-resistant. If you grow it outdoors, once you find a strong wind blowing, you must protect it. Otherwise its stems and roots will break, affecting its growth and also causing death. Of course, everyone should also pinch off the growing tips from time to time, because it grows very fast, and if the seedlings grow too fast and too tall, it will not only affect flowering but also make it prone to falling over. Of course, during the growth stage, Cosmos does not need too much water, so there is no need to water it too frequently; just observe when the soil is slightly dry and then give it water.
