Cyclamen is also called root begonia or rabbit flower. Its flower shape is very unique, like little hearts, and also like human kidneys. Cyclamen's flower colors are very vivid, making it especially suitable for pot cultivation indoors. Its growing method is not very difficult either, so everyone can try growing one. So is Cyclamen poisonous? Why does it fail to bloom?

1. Is Cyclamen poisonous?

Cyclamen is indeed somewhat toxic. Its toxicity is mainly found in the root and stem parts of the plant, which contain toxic plant alkaloids, while the other flowers and fragrance do not contain toxins.

If its root and stem parts are eaten by mistake, symptoms such as dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea will appear. At the same time, it should not be touched too much with the skin, otherwise it will cause skin allergies, redness and swelling, itching, and rashes. If this kind of symptom appears during the growing process, be sure to seek medical treatment in time.

It should also be noted that if there are young children or animals in the home, it is not suitable to grow Cyclamen indoors, so as to avoid poisoning reactions after they eat it by mistake.

2. Why does Cyclamen fail to bloom?

1. Too much watering

Cyclamen is very afraid of an environment with too much water. If the amount of water is too much, root rot will occur, along with yellowing leaves and leaf drop, which naturally affects blooming as well.

The solution is actually very simple: control the amount needed when watering it. Generally, you can wait until the leaves begin to wilt before watering again, and when watering, do not pour water directly onto the leaves. Instead, choose the method of soaking the pot; you can also use drip irrigation to water the flowers.

2. Not enough humidity

If the air humidity is too low, Cyclamen cannot obtain enough moisture, which affects the plant's growth. The solution is to appropriately increase the humidity in the air, usually to 60% to 80%, which will make it grow more vigorously and extend the blooming period.

3. Not enough light

Although Cyclamen can tolerate a semi-shaded environment a little, if it stays in a place with weak light for a long time, it will affect the plant's growth, causing leaf drop, yellowing leaves, failure to bloom, and bud drop, thereby affecting blooming efficiency.

Therefore, during normal care, place it in a place with sufficient light, and often move the direction of the flower pot to prevent the phenomenon where one side of the flower grows wildly while the other side does not grow.

4. Lack of phosphorus fertilizer

If, when growing Cyclamen, the light duration is not too long, but the flowers produced are not only light in color but also small, this situation is due to a lack of phosphorus fertilizer. Cyclamen's blooming period is very long, from October each year all the way to April of the following year, and many flower lovers basically have no habit of fertilizing when growing flowers. Or else they only remember to fertilize after noticing that the flowers are not quite normal, and in this way the flowers cannot be grown well.
