Can Tribenuron-methyl herbicide be used on wheat after the Chinese New Year? Keep these precautions firmly in mind
Tribenuron-methyl mainly controls broadleaf weeds in wheat fields, such as flixweed, cleavers, shepherd's purse, and corn gromwell. This formula can be said to be one of the earlier commonly used formulas since the large-scale implementation of wheat herbicides. Not only is its control effect good, but its price is also mainly cheap. It is deeply liked by farmers and is one of the preferred herbicides for many wheat growers. Friends planting winter wheat, if you are spraying herbicide after the Chinese New Year, can tribenuron-methyl herbicide be used? If using tribenuron-methyl, what should be noted?
1. Disadvantages of using tribenuron-methyl
① The control effect is getting worse and worse. This is mainly caused by the long-term use of a single tribenuron-methyl product over many years. Faced with this situation, some friends choose to increase the dosage. The consequence of doing so is that the more this goes on, the larger the usage amount becomes, but the control effect becomes worse. At present, a single tribenuron-methyl product no longer works in many winter wheat planting areas. Many farmers have already given up using it, or use it in combination with other broadleaf weed herbicides.
② The residual period is too long. This aspect is caused by the characteristics of tribenuron-methyl. According to observations, the residual time of tribenuron-methyl is generally between 2-4 months, and in some specific areas, the time will be extended, affecting the growth of subsequent crops. Everyone can calculate the time. When spraying wheat herbicide after the Chinese New Year, it is generally during March, while the harvest time of winter wheat is around June 1, less than 3 months. The planting time of the subsequent crop is around June 15. From the time analysis, this is very likely to cause herbicide damage to the subsequent crop, resulting in short and slow growth, yellowing leaves, and even direct death of seedlings in the subsequent crop.
2. Precautions for using tribenuron-methyl
① This product can only be used once per crop season.
② This product has high activity. When applying it, the dosage must be strictly controlled, and attention should be paid to mixing it evenly with water.
③ This product can only be used to control weeds that have already emerged, and its control effect on weeds that have not emerged is very poor.
④ Spraying should be stopped in windy weather to avoid drift of the spray solution causing phytotoxicity to nearby broadleaf crops.
⑤ The residual effect period of this product in soil is about 60 days.
⑥ Peanuts and potatoes are sensitive to this product. In winter wheat fields where this product has been applied, peanuts must not be planted as the subsequent crop.
Having said so much, in fact, the main reason tribenuron-methyl is not recommended for spraying wheat herbicide after the Chinese New Year is that the residual period is too long and will affect the growth of subsequent crops. Of course, if the dosage used is not much, it is not that it cannot be used, but just in case, and also considering the control effect on weeds, it is still advisable to use other formulas.
