How to Plant Flower Seeds? A Detailed Guide to the Correct Planting Method
Many people like to grow small plants at home. Beginners who have just bought seeds do not know how to get started. What is the better way to plant flower seeds?
How to plant flower seeds
1. Before planting, first prepare the planting soil and apply base fertilizer well, to lay a good foundation for later plant growth.
2. Decide whether germination treatment is needed according to the condition of the seeds. Some seeds have thicker seed coats and need to be soaked in warm water for a period of time first, then placed in fine sand, and once they show white they can be sown.
3. Larger seeds can be planted by poking a hole in the soil with a finger, then putting the seed in, while small seeds can be scattered directly on the soil. After the seeds are planted, cover them with a thin layer of soil. Small seeds can also be left without covering with soil.
4. When sowing in spring, a film can be covered to keep warm and retain moisture, while in summer it is not needed. Generally, sowing needs to be done in a place with sufficient light, but in summer it can be sown in a semi-shaded place, or sown with shading, and the shading can be removed promptly after the seedlings emerge.
5. The suitable germination temperature for most seeds is 20-25°C. It should be noted that some seeds can only germinate under low-temperature conditions, such as Persian buttercup and larkspur.
6. For most herbs and seeds sown in autumn and winter, the temperature should not be higher than 25°C; for seeds sown in spring and summer, it should not be lower than 20°C. If the temperature cannot be reached, use plastic wrap to raise the temperature. Plastic wrap also has a moisture-retaining effect. In summer, all seeds should be placed in a cool place, with shading from sun and rain. In winter, pay attention to keeping warm and preventing frost damage.
7. Before the seeds germinate, they have not yet grown roots and need artificially added water to sustain life. The soil should be kept moist, but not waterlogged.
