How to Plant Cherry Seeds? A Detailed Guide to the Planting Method
Cherries belong to the genus of trees, growing 2-6 m tall, with grayish-white bark. They can be propagated from their seeds, commonly known as the seedling method. Today we will give you a brief introduction to how to plant cherry seeds?
1. Leveling the Land
Before planting, first dig the planting trenches or planting holes. They should be dug more than 80 cm wide and deep, with 20-30 cm of crop straw placed at the bottom, then covered with 20 cm of soil, and finally applied with 50 jin of farmyard manure per plant, then watered.
2. Planting
When planting bud seedlings, the grafted bud should be exposed about 5 cm above the ground. After planting, water so that the roots and soil are firmly combined. The rootstock buds should be removed frequently to ensure the growth advantage of the grafted bud.
3. Fertilizer and Water Management
After planting, pay attention to watering to preserve soil moisture. From May to August, apply urea or diammonium phosphate once each month, at 15, 20, 25, and 30 jin per mu respectively, and water appropriately after application.
4. Pinching
After planting the bud seedlings, around May, when the seedlings reach 50-60 cm in height, pinching is needed, cutting off the top 10 cm. In this way, cherries generally produce 3-4 new shoots.
Cherry trees like light, warmth, moisture, and fertilizer, so attention should be paid to weather and site conditions when planting. The main production areas of cherries in China include Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Henan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and others.
