Scallions are a common seasoning in our daily lives, essential for stewing soup and making cold dishes. Nowadays, many people also like to grow a few pots on their own balconies, so how do you grow scallions on a balcony?

1. Choosing seedlings

For balcony scallion growing, you can just buy edible but untreated scallions from the market. When buying scallions, choose ones with fresh, emerald-green leaves and intact roots. Then cut off the leaves above for eating and keep the remaining roots for planting.

2. Preparing pots

Scallions have low requirements for pots; any container will do, as long as there is enough space. If you have some flowers and plants at home, you can plant them directly together where there is space, saving space and also helping to defend against pests and diseases.

3. Planting

Put an appropriate amount of soil in the pot, then dig a hole, plant the scallion roots in it, cover with soil and firm it down, and water a little.

4. Care

(1) Watering tips: From sowing until the leaves appear, keep the soil moist. When the scallions grow to about 15 cm, ensure sufficient water to promote rapid growth. In the middle stage of growth, appropriately reduce the amount of water.

(2) Fertilizing tips: Fertilize once every ten days. You can choose ordinary compound fertilizer or flower fertilizer. The most economical and practical fertilizer is rice-washing water. Rice-washing water is not only environmentally friendly, but also provides both water and nutrients, making it very suitable as fertilizer for scallions.

Overall, growing scallions on a balcony is quite simple. Just choose good seedlings, plant them in a pot, and then do the basic management work such as watering, fertilizing and pest and disease control.
