When do Shexian loquats mature?

Shexian loquats generally mature in May and June, but there may be slight differences due to changes in climate and other factors. Once ripe, they are prized for their thick flesh, sweet juice, thin skin, large size and delicious flavor, and after picking they are shipped to all parts of the country.

What are the growing conditions for Shexian loquats?

1. Soil conditions

The soil type is red soil or yellow soil, and the soil texture is sandy loam; the pH value is 5.5 to 7.0; the organic matter content is ≥1%.

2. Climatic conditions

Santan loquat is mainly produced in the three natural villages of Zhangtan, Miantan and Yuetan along the banks of the Xin'an River in Shexian, hence the name. They are called “Santan” because in the area of these three natural villages, the surrounding mountains embrace three large, deep pools, making it warm in winter and cool in summer; the unique microclimate of “Santan”, with clouds and mist lingering year-round and abundant rainfall, provides exceptionally favorable conditions for the growth of loquats.

3. Planting time

It is divided into spring planting and autumn planting. Spring planting is from late February to early March; autumn planting is from mid-October to early November. Harvest in batches when the fruit of the red (yellow) flesh types turns yellow and the fruit of the white flesh types turns pale yellow.
