Cultivation Techniques and Management Methods for the Money Tree
The money tree is a potted plant in relatively high demand, and its economic value is also relatively high. Many people cultivate it, so what are the cultivation techniques for the money tree? How should pest and disease control be carried out for the money tree?
1. Cultivation Techniques for the Money Tree
1. Choose fertile, well-drained sandy loam for planting, and the nursery is best located in a wind-sheltered, sunny position.
Generally, the seedbed is made into a bed surface 1 m wide and 10 m long, preferably running north to south. Before planting, the bed surface must also be deep-ploughed, the topsoil removed, and the bed tamped firm. A 3 cm thick layer of gravel is laid on the lower layer, and on top is spread a 10 to 15 cm thick substrate of fresh river sand and furnace slag mixed at 2:1.
2. The money tree needs ample light during its growing period. Generally, no shading is needed in spring and winter, while shading is needed in summer and autumn when light intensity is greater.
The money tree is a plant with intermediate day-length requirements. After sprouting, about 75% shading is generally suitable, usually using 1 layer of 50% shade netting.
3. Keeping the temperature inside the shed at 25-38°C and the humidity at 50%-75% allows the money tree to grow better.
In the hot summer sun and the dry autumn, water should often be sprayed on the ground at noon to increase humidity and lower temperature.
4. Apply fertilizer appropriately according to the growth of the money tree, and pay attention to ventilation and air exchange.
After potting and sprouting, spray once a week with a liquid fertilizer containing the three major elements, such as a 500-600 times dilution of a compound fertilizer with nitrogen:phosphorus:potassium at 20:20:20. In addition, apply 1 time per month to the soil an organic fertilizer or a phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. In the peak growing season, avoid applying excessive nitrogen fertilizer alone.
2. Pest and Disease Control for the Money Tree
1. Pests: Pests include scale insects, whiteflies, and leaf-roller moths. The control method is to spray with a 1000 times dilution of 25% phosmet emulsifiable concentrate to kill them;
2. Diseases: Leaf spot disease is a common problem. The control method is to spray a 1000 times dilution of 50% carbendazim for prevention and control.
