Yellow peaches have a rich fragrance and sweet flesh, making them popular among people, and many fruit growers plant them on a large scale. Today we will briefly learn about yellow peach sapling cultivation techniques.

1. Choose loose, fertile sandy loam with convenient drainage and irrigation as the planting site, and avoid continuous cropping. Make the planting holes properly, form ridges, and apply basal fertilizer well.

2. Cultivating yellow peach seedlings must involve grafting. There are two types of grafted yellow peach seedlings:

Finished seedlings: In early June, when the seedling rootstock grows to a height of about 60 cm, grafting is carried out using the “Ding”-shaped bark-ring budding method. The scion should be selected from yellow peach varieties with excellent overall traits. The grafted seedling can grow to about 1 cm in diameter at the base by autumn and can leave the nursery in the same year.

Bud seedlings: Generally grafted in mid-to-late August, using “Ding”-shaped budding or bark-peeling patch grafting. The grafted peach bud does not sprout again in the same year. In the spring of the following year, cut it off 1 cm above the grafted bud to cultivate a large yellow peach seedling.

3. Yellow peach seedlings are planted from November to before March of the following year, mainly in autumn. Plant after the peach seedlings shed their leaves and before the soil completely freezes, so that the seedlings recover quickly in the following spring and the survival rate is high. Traditional planting is generally at a spacing of 3 m × 4 m, with 55 plants per mu.

4. Before cultivation, choose relatively high-quality strong seedlings. If the roots are too long, they can be properly pruned. The planting depth should leave the graft union exposed 3-5 cm above the soil surface.

5. After the yellow peach seedlings are planted, water them uniformly, train the young trees, and leave a trunk height of 50-70 cm for heading. Thinner seedlings should be headed at a shorter height, while thicker seedlings should be headed correspondingly longer.

6. Within 3 years after planting yellow peaches, mainly apply basal fertilizer, and do not apply or only sparingly apply nitrogen fertilizer to avoid excessive vegetative growth and delayed fruiting.

After the grafted yellow peach seedlings are planted well, provide follow-up water and fertilizer, and prune promptly during crown growth.
