Cultivation Techniques and Planting Management Tips for Endive
Currently, people increasingly favor green and healthy vegetables, and endive is highly favored for its ability to clear heat and detoxify, so more and more farmers are starting to grow endive. So what are the cultivation techniques for endive?
1. Cultivation Techniques for Endive
1. Sowing: Endive likes a cool climate, and the soil suitable for growing endive is mainly fertile, loose sandy loam or clay. Before sowing, apply enough base fertilizer, using 1000-2000 kg of decomposed farmyard manure, then prepare the land and make beds. The width of the bed is 0.8-1.0 m. On the bed surface, open small furrows 8 cm deep, with a distance of 12 cm between furrows, then evenly scatter the seeds on them and cover with a thin layer of fine soil about 0.5 cm thick.
2. Management: After the seeds are sown, seedlings emerge in 4-5 days. After emergence, spray an appropriate amount of water to prevent the soil from becoming too dry. When the seedling leaves grow to 4-5 leaves, thin or fill in the seedlings, and at the same time combine this with cultivating and weeding. If there are diseased or weak seedlings, promptly pull them out and take them out of the field to burn or bury, to prevent the spread of pests and diseases. When loosening the soil, be gentle to avoid damaging the roots of the seedlings.
3. Water and fertilizer: During the seedling stage, a small amount of water can be applied. During the vigorous growth period of stems and leaves, water must be sufficient. If water is lacking, the bitterness of endive will become too strong. In the later growth stage, the amount of watering can be appropriately reduced. During the plant growth stage, fertilize according to growth condition, using 1000-1200 kg of decomposed farmyard manure per mu.
4. Pest and disease control: The pests and diseases of endive include downy mildew, viral disease, aphids, etc. For control methods, downy mildew can be sprayed with 80% Saidefu wettable powder at 500-600 times dilution, once every 10 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays. Viral disease can be sprayed with 0% Virus A wettable powder at 500 times dilution, once every 10 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays. Aphids can be sprayed with 40% Keyaxing at 800-1000 times dilution; aphid control should be carried out half a month before harvest.
2. The Effects of Endive
Endive is rich in protein and essential elements for the human body such as calcium, iron and magnesium, and new green nutritional foods can be developed from endive. Zhang Kuichang used endive as the main raw material, supplemented with other food ingredients, to make health vermicelli, health steamed buns, health jelly and other new nutritional foods, enhancing the taste of the foods and adding more nutritional components. Endive contains effective antioxidant components and can effectively remove free radicals from the human body. It has good effects in protecting against radiation and enhancing human immunity, and is a very reliable health food. Using fresh tender endive as the raw material supplemented with soybean filtrate, brightly colored endive tofu with higher nutritional value can be made. Endive yogurt can also be made using endive and fresh milk as the main raw materials, fermented with lactic acid bacteria. Compared with traditional foods, these new nutritional foods not only have a higher content of nutritional components, but can also satisfy contemporary people's pursuit of food quality, thus making new foods made with endive as a raw material more loved and praised by people.
Endive has very high edible value and medicinal value. At present, it is also being planted more and more widely and is loved by urban and rural residents.
