Succulent plants refer to plants in which, among the three vegetative organs of the plant - root, stem and leaf - the leaves are thick and juicy and have the function of storing large amounts of water; they are also called “succulents”. So do you know how to care for leaf-propagated succulents?

1. Light

Because leaf-propagated succulents have not yet grown new roots, the plant is very fragile at this time. We should not normally place leaf-propagated succulents in direct sunlight or under scorching exposure, as this can easily cause the plant's leaves to turn to water and become infected with black rot.

2. Watering

Because fine capillary roots are the key to succulents absorbing water, but if leaf-propagated succulents have not yet grown a new root system, they do not have the ability to absorb. During this special period, in the early stage you only need to keep the soil slightly moist; after about 15 days, you can slowly increase the amount of watering, and it is best not to let the plant soak in water.

3. Soil Mix

If you want leaf-propagated succulents to quickly grow a root system, when choosing the soil mix you can buy a growing medium that makes rooting easy and is loose and breathable. Generally, vermiculite and peat can be selected, with a ratio of 1:1 as the substrate, while rainbow stone is used as the top dressing.

Succulent plants are relatively easy to propagate because their meristematic tissue is well developed. Common methods include grafting, cuttings, sowing, root cuttings, division, leaf cuttings, and cutting growing points.
