Detailed Explanation of Key Celery Cultivation Techniques for Summer
Celery, also known as Hu qin, is one of the vegetables we commonly eat in daily life, and its planting area in China is also very large. So what are the celery cultivation techniques for summer? Let's learn about them together below.
What are the celery cultivation techniques for summer?
1. Preparatory work
The growth of celery requires a cool and moist environment, so when planting in summer it is necessary to do a good job of shading and to choose varieties with strong heat tolerance. After sun-drying the seeds for 3-4 hours, soak them in clean water for 10-12 hours, then remove the mucilage from the seeds. After washing them clean, air-dry them until half-dry for germination treatment.
2. Planting and transplanting
Sow the well-germinated seeds on plots with sufficient base fertilizer applied. After sowing, do a good job of shading and water management to facilitate seedling emergence and keep the seedbed surface moist. When the seedlings have 5-6 true leaves, they can be transplanted for planting. Field planting should be carried out after 5:00 p.m., and root-setting water should be poured promptly after planting.
3. Field management
After field planting, use bamboo, wood or metal, etc. to build arched sheds or flat sheds so that the plants have shade protection throughout their entire growth period. From surviving field planting until the plants close the rows, shallow intertillage should be done 2-3 times, generally topdressing 3-4 times, followed by flood irrigation with shallow water. In addition, the main diseases and insect pests of summer celery include: leaf spot disease, late blight, viral disease, American leafminer, etc. In the control process, actively carry out prevention and control in accordance with the plant protection policy of “prevention first, integrated control”.
When celery is planted in summer, the whole growth period is 90-110 days. When the plants reach about 60 cm in height, they can be harvested and brought to market, until the end of October.
