When to Sow Late Rice? A Detailed Guide to Sowing Time
As a major rice-producing country, China has very strong strength and foundations in this regard. Everyone knows that rice is divided into early rice, middle rice, and late rice, but do you know when late rice is sown?
1. When to Sow Late Rice
Late rice is generally sown in mid-to-late June and harvested in early-to-mid October. Because the growing environment and temperature changes vary from region to region, the cultivation and harvest times will also differ to some extent.
2. Steps for Planting Rice
1. Land preparation
Before planting rice, land preparation is an essential step. In the past, animal power and plows were used, mainly water buffaloes to prepare the land and plow the fields, but today machines are mostly used for land preparation.
2. Raising seedlings
Raising seedlings is key to the early stage of rice growth. Nowadays, specialized seedling centers mostly use seedling boxes to grow rice seedlings. Good rice seedlings are the key to successful rice cultivation. When the seedlings grow to about eight centimeters tall, they can be transplanted. Transplanting is mainly done in two ways, by machine and by hand, and you can choose according to the scale and the shape of the land.
3. Weeding and pest control
During the growth of the seedlings, weeding and pest control are necessary. When weeds appear in the field, they must be cleaned up promptly.
4. Fertilizing
When the seedlings shoot up and grow their first rice stem, this is called the tillering stage. During this period, fertilizing is often needed so that the rice seedlings grow strong and healthy and so that the grain quality and quantity of the later seed heads are improved.
5. Irrigation and drainage
Irrigation and drainage are steps that rice depends on relatively heavily. For upland rice, the fields are dry fields, and the irrigation and drainage process is somewhat different, but generally after transplanting, when the young panicles form, and during the heading and flowering stage, water irrigation needs to be strengthened.
6. Drying and screening
The harvested rice grain needs to be dried. In the past, it was mostly sun-dried in the front courtyard of a sanheyuan, and it had to be turned constantly to let the grain dry. Screening is removing impurities such as shriveled grain. An electric grain separator, a winnower, or manual shaking is used to separate the grain, using wind power to automatically screen out the plump and heavy rice grains.
