The variegated dwarf umbrella tree is also called the variegated Schefflera arboricola. Its plant is compact, its crown is neat, and its leaves are palm-shaped. It is an ornamental plant. How to grow the variegated dwarf umbrella tree well?
How to grow the variegated dwarf umbrella tree
1. To cultivate the variegated dwarf umbrella tree, choose sandy soil with deep, loose, and fertile soil. Peat soil, river sand, and perlite can be evenly mixed in a certain proportion, with an appropriate amount of cake fertilizer added.
2. The variegated dwarf umbrella tree grows relatively fast and likes a warm and humid environment. Keep the soil moist at all times. If the potting soil is too dry or waterlogged, it will cause poor growth of the plant, and may even cause leaf drop. Follow the watering principle of not watering when dry and watering thoroughly when watering. When the weather is dry, spray the plant to maintain humidity.
3. Keep its growing temperature at 20-30°C, and not lower than 5°C in winter. -0°C will cause the plant to freeze and thus cause leaf drop.
4. It is best to place the variegated dwarf umbrella tree in a bright place, where it can receive a certain amount of light every day. The intensity of light has a certain relationship with leaf color. When light is strong, the leaf color tends to be lighter; in semi-shade, the leaf color is dark green. Under bright light, the colors of variegated varieties are more vivid. It can grow in full sun, partial sun, or semi-shade environments, but do not place it in a dark environment for a long time.
5. Fertilize moderately. During the growth period, apply liquid fertilizer once every 1-2 weeks. From May to September each spring, apply dilute cake fertilizer water 1-2 times every month. Do not apply nitrogen fertilizer during the flowering period, to avoid making the flower color lighter and affecting the appearance. During the dormant period, fertilization is not necessary.
6. The variegated dwarf umbrella tree is mainly affected by pests and diseases such as leaf spot disease and anthracnose, scale insects, red spiders, thrips, and leaf miners, so certain prevention and control measures should be taken.
7. During the rainy season, when there is too much rain, drain water promptly. After the plant has taken shape, repot it generally in spring.
The variegated dwarf umbrella tree is relatively easy to grow. As long as you control its preferences well, you can make it thrive with lush branches and leaves.
