How to grow garlic on a balcony? Practical growing methods shared
Now many people like to grow some flowers and plant some vegetables on the balcony. Not only can it green the environment, but you can also pick and eat them anytime. Common ones include growing garlic, growing cabbage, growing tomatoes, etc. So how do you grow garlic on a balcony?
1. Planting time
Garlic is usually sown and propagated using garlic sprouts, and can be sown all year round. However, sowing garlic in May in spring is best, as it allows the garlic sprouts to germinate quickly in the potting soil. Also, do not sow on rainy days, as the garlic sprouts can easily rot.
2. Choosing pots and soil
Prepare a wide-mouthed flower pot; either a ceramic pot or a clay pot will do. Ordinary garden soil can be used, and it is best to add an appropriate amount of fertilizer, which is more conducive to growth. Once prepared, put it into the flower pot and set aside. Of course, you can also mix garden soil, plant ash, and fine sand in a 5:1:1 ratio as the growing medium, and add an appropriate amount of decomposed organic fertilizer to increase the fertility of the mixed soil.
3. Selecting seed
Choose garlic bulbs that are undamaged on the outside, disease-free, and free of pests and diseases, then break them apart, being careful not to damage the outer skin. For pot cultivation, plant them together with the skin on.
4. Planting
Before planting, moisten the soil with water first, then plant the flat end of the garlic cloves into the soil, burying them about halfway. Then keep the soil moist and place them in a shaded spot so that sunlight does not reach the potted garlic bulbs. This way, the garlic bulbs can take root and sprout in the potting soil.
Overall, growing garlic on a balcony is very easy. Just choose good potting soil, prepare the garlic cloves properly, and plant them in the soil.
