How to grow amaranth? Master these planting methods and management tips
Amaranth is a common vegetable; its tender seedlings and tender stems and leaves are all edible, and it has a unique flavor. In addition, it is rich in various vitamins and minerals needed by the human body, all of which are important substances easily absorbed by the human body. Below, the editor willintroduce how to grow amaranth.
1. Land preparation and fertilization
Amaranth has strong adaptability, so it is not strict about soil, but it grows well in alkaline soil. Although it is drought-tolerant, it grows poorly in soil with poor drainage, so a plot with flat terrain and good drainage should be chosen. When preparing the land, be sure to do it carefully: turn the soil deeply, break up clods of soil, and keep the soil loose.
2. Sowing and raising seedlings
Amaranth seeds can be sown directly, but to ensure the germination rate, soak the seeds in warm water for 4-5 hours before sowing. However, its seeds are relatively small, so when sowing, mix them with sandy soil, stir evenly, and then sow. Scatter them on the surface of the ground and cover with 0.5cm of soil. After sowing, little care is needed; normally they will sprout in one week, while treated seeds can sprout in 2-3 days. When the seedlings emerge and grow two or three leaves, thin them out, and apply fertilizer once after thinning.
3. Field management
During the seedling stage of amaranth, cultivate and weed in time to avoid affecting seedling growth. During the growth period of amaranth, fertilizer should be applied multiple times: apply fertilizer once when two or three leaves have grown, once when 5-6 leaves have grown, and once at harvest time. When fertilizing, nitrogen fertilizer should be the main type, appropriately combined with some farmyard manure. Although amaranth is drought-tolerant, to make it grow vigorously, the soil should often be kept moist in spring and winter; in summer, when temperatures are high, the amount of watering needs to be increased.
Amaranth has strong adaptability, is easy to grow, and has few pests and diseases. Compared with other vegetables, its planting method is simpler.
