How to grow the resurrection plant? Detailed growing methods and tips

General News By Sophie Bennett 0 views
The resurrection plant, also known as Selaginella (spikemoss), belongs to the Selaginellaceae family of ferns. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that often grows on bare rock faces in mountainous areas. It also has fairly high medicinal value, so how do you grow the resurrection plant? 1. Growing time To grow the resurrection plant, you first need to know the most suitable time for growing it. In southern regions, the climate and environment are quite suitable, and it can be grown all year round. In the north, temperatures and environmental conditions are often relatively low, so the suitable growing time is quite limited, generally from June to October, when the climate and environment are relatively mild.

1. Growing time

To grow the resurrection plant, you first need to know the most suitable time for growing it. In southern regions, the climate and environment are quite suitable, and it can be grown all year round. In the north, temperatures and environmental conditions are often relatively low, so the suitable growing time is quite limited, generally from June to October, when the climate and environment are relatively mild.

2. Diffused light

The resurrection plant does not like direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to the sun will scorch its leaves. Place the resurrection plant in a bright area where it can receive diffused sunlight, and maintain good ventilation so that it gets some light for photosynthesis.

3. Suitable temperature

The suitable growing temperature for the resurrection plant is 22-28°C. Temperatures that are too high or too low will both cause poor growth. Keep its growing temperature within the suitable range; if the temperature is too high, spray water promptly to cool it down, and if the temperature is too low, promptly increase warmth and protect it from the cold.

4. Moderate watering

A moist environment allows the resurrection plant to grow better, so when growing it, you need to water it promptly to replenish moisture and meet its growth needs. Generally, water once every 1-2 days in spring and autumn, water every morning and evening in summer, and water once every 3-5 days in winter, keeping the soil moist.

5. Timely fertilizing

The resurrection plant needs timely fertilizing during its growth process to meet its nutritional needs. Generally, during its growing season, fertilize once every 2 weeks. You can choose nitrogen fertilizer or phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. Be careful not to make the fertilizer concentration too high; around 30% is sufficient.

6. Propagation methods

Cuttage propagation: This is mainly done in spring. Cut a 5-8cm long healthy branch from the mother plant, insert it into prepared moist soil, and place it in a bright area with soft light for care. Once it takes root, it is fine.

Spore propagation: Cut a stem section from the resurrection plant that has mature sporangia, keeping the length at about 1.5 cm. Then insert the stem section into prepared fine soil, soak the soil, cover the pot opening with a glass lid to keep it warm and moist, and new shoots will soon grow.

The resurrection plant has strong drought tolerance. Even if its leaves dry up due to lack of water, it will not die; as soon as it encounters water, it will come back to life.
