Shasta daisy can be sown in February in spring, or in August-September in autumn. However, sowing in spring means it can bloom the same year, while sowing in autumn means it will only bloom the following year. So how should it be planted?

How to plant Shasta daisy?

1. Seed treatment

Harvest the seeds after the fruit ripens, place them in a ventilated spot to dry, and then store them. The seeds can be disinfected before sowing.

2. Sowing

Cover the treated seeds with 3 cm of fine soil, add water, and keep them moist at a temperature of around 20°C; they will sprout in half a month. After sprouting, you can water them, loosen the soil or weed, so that the soil has good nutrients and the seedlings take shape quickly. Once they have grown 3 to 4 true leaves, they can be transplanted. In addition, when sowing, you can add bone meal or farmyard manure to the soil, mix it with the soil before sowing, so that the soil has good nutrients and the seedlings grow faster.

3. Light

Shasta daisy plants like light. When planting, choose a spot with plenty of light or good ventilation; for potted planting, place the plant on a balcony or in a bright spot.

4. Water and fertilizer

When planting outdoors, check in the rainy season whether the drainage ditches flow freely, to avoid water accumulating around the plants; normally, watering can be done according to the soil or weather changes, once every 3 to 4 days; when applying fertilizer, use bone meal or diluted fertilizer, applied once every half a month, so that the stems and leaves grow vigorously.

The leaves of Shasta daisy stay green all year round, and it usually blooms in spring and summer. It is a very good plant for pots and cut flowers.
