Bleeding heart vine care

1. Light

Bleeding heart vine needs plenty of light in winter. When the weather is too hot in summer, it should be shaded, otherwise the leaves turn yellow. When light is insufficient, it will grow as a vine and not flower. Flower bud differentiation is not affected by photoperiod, but stronger light promotes flower bud differentiation and development. It should not be placed in darkness for too long; at temperatures above 21°C, exceeding 24 hours, it will drop its flowers.

2. Fertilizing

Bleeding heart vine should not be fertilized too much; fertilize once every half month. During the flowering season of bleeding heart vine, apply once every 7~10 days a diluted, well-rotted cake fertilizer solution; applying 3~4 times in a row is sufficient, with 1~2 additional applications of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. In winter, reduce watering and stop fertilizing.

3. Watering

In the hot summer season, water thoroughly and provide appropriate shade. In winter, reduce watering to let it go dormant, so it can overwinter safely.

4. Pruning

When repotting each spring, prune and shorten the above-ground branches. During the growing season, strictly control the height of the branches and pay attention to pinching and topping. Half a month after pinching, apply daminozide or chlormequat to control plant height.

In addition, during the care period, also pay attention to preventing and controlling pests and diseases such as leaf spot, scale insects, and whiteflies; pesticides can be sprayed in advance for prevention and control.
