Detailed Explanation of Snow Peach Cultivation Techniques and Key Planting Management Points
Summer is exactly the good time to eat peaches, but among peaches there is one variety that ripens around the Start of Winter (October-November), and that is the snow peach. Below we introduce its cultivation techniques.
Cultivation techniques of snow peach
1. Site selection and land preparation
Choose soil that is deep, loose, fertile and convenient for irrigation and drainage, carry out plowing, leveling and breaking up clods, then dig holes and improve the soil, make the planting pits well and set the row direction, apply 100 kg of decomposed farmyard manure and 1 kg of compound fertilizer per plant, mix thoroughly with the subsoil and backfill; when filling, put raw soil at the bottom and topsoil on top, irrigate immediately after backfilling to settle it, then fill level and prepare for planting.
2. Seedling selection and planting
Choose seedlings that grow vigorously, have well-developed root systems, many fibrous roots and thick sturdy stems, plant the seedlings in the pits with the graft union exposed above the soil and facing the main wind direction, straighten the seedlings, then fill with soil. After planting the seedlings in the soil, firm them layer by layer, make beds, water them, and after watering thoroughly cover with black film.
3. Fertilization and topdressing
Fertilize snow peach trees mainly with organic fertilizer and supplement with chemical fertilizer; apply fertilizer 35-50 cm from the soil surface, and carry out ring fertilization outside the tree disc at 40-80 cm depending on tree age; apply urea separately before budding and at the hard-pit stage; during the fruit expansion stage, focus on phosphorus and potassium; in the rainy season, when young trees grow rapidly, topdress with compound fertilizer, and add compound fertilizer before harvest.
4. Pruning and fruit thinning
Summer pruning is generally carried out in June-July, mainly to cut off overly dense branches and too many new shoots, which can make the tree more open and airy and improve fruit quality. Autumn pruning is to cut off all the tender branches at the top of the tree as much as possible, to prevent autumn shoots from growing excessively, wasting nutrients, and to avoid fruit drop and fruit cracking. Winter pruning mainly removes dense branches, dead branches, diseased branches, weak branches and so on. In addition, during the fruit growth period, diseased and insect-damaged fruit, deformed fruit, densely clustered fruit, cracked fruit and smaller fruit should all be removed in time.
Watering snow peaches should be determined according to growth conditions, weather and the moisture of the soil.
