When Do Soapberry Fruits Ripen? A Detailed Guide to Fruit Ripening Time
Soapberry generally ripens in September-October. It tastes slightly bitter and pungent, and is mildly toxic. It has the effects of clearing heat and resolving phlegm, and eliminating stagnation and killing parasites. It is mostly used to treat diphtheria, sore and swollen throat, tonsillitis, cough and other conditions. Therefore it has certain cultivation benefits. Below is an introduction to the cultivation methods for soapberry.
Cultivation Methods for Soapberry
1. Time
The best time to sow soapberry seeds is in March and April, because March and April are in spring, when the climate is relatively warm, and soapberry happens to like growing in a warm environment, so the climate conditions in March and April can meet the growth needs of soapberry.
2. Land Preparation
Soapberry seedlings are quite sensitive to soil nutrients. When soil nutrients are sufficient, they can grow glossy green and robust. But the soil in a small number of medicinal fields is of ordinary fertility, so if you want the seedlings to grow thick and strong, you must apply enough green manure before sowing, spreading 5-8T of cow dung and pig manure per mu. After applying the fertilizer, plow the land once and harrow it level once, so that the soil and fertilizer are evenly mixed with moisture, with no large clods of soil, which facilitates sowing and germination. In addition, to make things easier for soapberry seedlings throughout the entire growth period, irrigation, weeding and fertilizer application are management tasks that must be done.
3. Sowing
Soak the seeds in warm water for 1 day, then take them out and let them dry before sowing. The sowing depth should be moderate, and the soil covering depth should not exceed 3cm. Row sowing is generally used. After sowing, you can also cover with moisture-retaining plastic film, or moisture-retaining materials such as rice straw, to increase the germination rate. After covering with soil, irrigate once, and they can roughly germinate in 7-12 days.
Once the seedlings have grown well, they can be planted out. After planting out, just carry out the relevant management tasks.
