How to Raise Turbot? A Detailed Explanation of Breeding Methods and Technical Key Points
Turbot is a model example of marine fish introduction in our country, and it is also an extremely tasty edible fish, so how do you raise turbot? Let's take a look together!
1. Seedling rearing
Seedling rearing is carried out through broodstock cultivation and artificial propagation:
1. Broodstock cultivation
The farm should be chosen in a place far from pollution sources, with convenient communications and transportation, sufficient electricity, and access to freshwater.
The sources of broodstock fall into two types: selection from wild populations and selection from farmed populations.
The cultivation requirements are:
Illuminance of 60Lux-600Lux, with the top of the pond and its surroundings shaded, to facilitate fully artificial photoperiod control;
Water temperature 8℃-15℃, salinity 28-35, pH7.88.2;
Dissolved oxygen >7 mg/L; ammonia nitrogen <0.1 mg/L, and the water exchange volume of the flow-through water should be at least 2-6 full volumes;
The broodstock cultivation workshop must maintain a quiet environment, and noise and interference from personnel activities are prohibited.
2. Artificial propagation
Male turbot reach sexual maturity at one year of age, and females at two years of age. The natural maturation period is from May to August each year, and the spawning season is between April and August. For artificially cultivated broodstock, under artificially controlled lighting, mature eggs can be obtained from January to October. Artificial propagation still adopts the artificial insemination method.
2. Seed selection
When selecting seeds, seedlings above 5cm must be chosen. The seedlings should be required to have bright body surfaces, complete body shape, no wounds, no darkening, no inflammation, no deformities, no albinism and no parasites, strong activity ability, and neat gill filaments. It is best to purchase them from national-level improved breed farms or government-designated seedling farms.
3. External environment
Attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the water quality and the bottom sediment environment, and to reducing human interference, light interference, and so on.
4. Water environment
Regularly measure water quality indicators, including water temperature, dissolved oxygen, ammonia nitrogen, and so on. Dead fish and diseased fish must be promptly removed. Breeding workers should be assigned to dedicated zones, breeding tools should be dedicated to specific ponds and frequently disinfected, and the breeding workshop should be regularly disinfected, with the disinfectant frequently replaced, to ensure a good water quality environment.
5. Application of medicine
For applying medicine, it is best to use medicine with low toxicity and relatively little irritation to the fish, and to reduce the number of applications as much as possible.
