How to plant rose roots? A detailed planting guide
Roses are a common flower in daily life, with extremely high ornamental value, and are very popular among flower lovers. Many people like to plant some in their own courtyards, so how do you plant rose roots?
1. Choosing a site
Roses like to grow in neutral to slightly acidic soil, so when choosing soil you can choose garden soil, leaf mold, peat, perlite, etc. and mix them together into a nutrient soil for planting. Of course, you can also use a mix of leaf mold and other materials rich in organic matter, along with peat. You can refer to the soil ratio: garden soil/field soil + humus soil + peat soil + perlite/river sand at a ratio of 2:1:1:0.5.
2. Disinfection and sterilization
According to the condition of the rose roots, soak the seedlings in water and treat them with sterilization. In addition, before planting, check the condition of the seedlings. If you find that the branches have wrinkled skin and are dehydrated, or the root system is dry, you need to soak them in water for 1~2 hours before planting. You can use solutions such as carbendazim and chlorothalonil to soak the roots and sterilize at the same time.
3. Pruning
Before planting, it is recommended to prune the branches according to the condition of the bare-root seedling's branches, cutting them back to retain 15-20 cm (depending on the variety). At the same time, according to the condition of the seedling's branches, cut off dead branches, weak branches, crossing branches and damaged branches.
4. Planting
Plant the treated roots into the soil, then cover with soil and water thoroughly to settle the roots.
5. Acclimatization
Within two weeks after planting, be careful to keep the soil moist, otherwise it is easy for them to dry out and die. In addition, do a good job of cold protection; do not leave them outdoors at night, as low temperatures and strong winds can cause the roses to die.
Overall, rose roots are still quite easy to plant. As long as you choose good soil, sterilize and disinfect the roots, and finally plant them in the soil, it will be fine.
