How to Grow Vegetable Marrow? Detailed Planting Methods and Tips
Vegetable marrow is rich in minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and iron; its nature and flavour are sweet and cold, it promotes urination and clears heat toxins. Below is an introduction to the growing methods for vegetable marrow.
I. Raising seedlings
Generally the direct sowing method is used; the optimum germination temperature is 28-3O°C, sow 3-4 seeds per hole, cover with 1-2 cm of soil, and they sprout in about 5 days. When the first true leaf appears, thin the seedlings, leaving 2-3 plants per hole; when there are 3-4 true leaves, thin again, leaving 1 plant per hole. If you want to transplant and establish them, do it at this stage as well.
II. Fertiliser and water management
Apart from watering after transplanting to help the seedlings recover, from the seedling stage to the flowering stage generally do not water as long as the soil is not dry. Once fruiting begins, water normally to keep the soil moist, generally once every 2-3 days. Generally spray with decomposed organic fertiliser about once every 2 weeks, and spray once each at flowering and early fruiting with decomposed organic fertiliser based mainly on phosphorus and potassium.
III. Routine care
When there are 5-6 true leaves, pinch out the growing tip, leaving 4 true leaves; when the side vines have about 4-5 true leaves, select and keep 2-4 strong side vines and pinch out their tips, removing the others. After each pinching, apply a light dressing of decomposed organic fertiliser.
The above are the growing methods for vegetable marrow; I hope they can help those who need them.
