Guizhou Gastrodia elata is mainly produced in Dafang County of Bijie City, Dejiang County of Tongren City, Nayong County of Bijie City, and other places. Among them, Dafang Gastrodia elata and Dejiang Gastrodia elata are special products of Guizhou Province and are China National Geographical Indication products.
2. Characteristics of Dafang Gastrodia elata
Dafang Gastrodia elata was already a precious tribute to the imperial family in the Ming Dynasty, with a tribute history of more than 600 years. It has long been famous at home and abroad for its title of “King of Nourishment.” Whether wild or cultivated, its main medicinal component gastrodin is relatively high in content, and it also contains more than 10 elements essential to the human body in relatively high contents, such as potassium, sodium, calcium, sulfur, phosphorus, boron, manganese, cobalt, molybdenum, rubidium, and so on. The gastrodin content of wild Dafang Gastrodia elata is 0.5%-1.0%, with an average value of 0.77%.
On October 31, 2008, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved the implementation of geographical indication product protection for “Dafang Gastrodia elata.”
3. Characteristics of Dejiang Gastrodia elata
It is a representative of Guizhou Gastrodia elata. Its characteristics are large size, thick and plump body, light yellow color, solid texture, difficult to break, and strong distinctive flavor. It also has quality characteristics such as high content of effective components including gastrodin, low heavy metal content, and no pesticide residues. According to sampling tests by the Guizhou Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau, the gastrodin content of Dejiang Gastrodia elata is as high as 0.36% to 1.3%, far higher than the national standard of 0.22%. Japanese doctor of pharmacy Noba Kakio said in his monograph Introduction to Kampo Medicine: “The best Gastrodia elata comes from Guizhou.”
On May 29, 2007, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved the implementation of geographical indication product protection for “Dejiang Gastrodia elata.”
From this, we can know that, with its uniquely favorable climate conditions and geographical location, the Gastrodia elata grown in Guizhou ranks first in our country in quality.
