How to Propagate Pansy? Detailed Propagation Methods
Pansy is also called tricolor viola, its petals have three colors, suitable for ornamental decoration. What are the propagation methods of pansy?
1. Seed propagation
Choose loose and fertile sandy soil as the planting soil, in August-September sow in an open seedbed or in pots.. The suitable germination temperature for pansy is 15-20°C, generally pansy will sprout about 15 days after sowing.
For open-field sowing of pansy, the planting site should be deeply plowed 20-30 cm, raked fine and leveled, and made into flat beds. After sowing, cover well with soil, provide shade after planting, and pay attention to keeping it moist. After the pansy sprouts, gradually let the pansy seedlings receive sunlight, but be careful not to let strong sunlight shine directly on them. Pansy should be watered in time, and the soil should be kept moist. Pansy seedlings cannot remain in an overly wet soil environment for a long time, otherwise they will easily grow poorly and may even die from waterlogging.
For pot sowing, also use fertile sandy loam. After sowing pansy, cover with soil, then water thoroughly once, and you can cover with glass or plastic film, then place the pansy pot in a ventilated and shady place. After germination, the covering can be removed, and then the pot can be placed in a sunny, ventilated and cool place for cultivation. Do not place pansy in direct sunlight, and follow the principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet. Thin the seedlings when there are 1-2 true leaves. Pansy can be potted when 3-4 true leaves have appeared. If pansy is managed well, it can generally bloom in 1-2 months.
2. Cutting propagation
From a mature pansy plant, cut a branch 3-4 cm long, with the top part being best, and keep 4-5 leaves. After selecting the cutting, let the cut surface dry for several days, and wait for a thin film to form before inserting it for cutting.
Soak the base of the selected cutting in 0.01% indolebutyric acid solution for 2 seconds, then insert it into the prepared substrate. After pansy cutting, place it in a semi-shady place, keep the room temperature at 13-18°C, and roots can form 14-21 days after cutting. When the roots are 3-4 cm long, it can be potted.
The propagation methods of pansy are relatively simple, mainly by doing a good job of care in the later stage, the plant can survive.
