How to Grow Moss? A Detailed Guide to Planting Methods and Care Tips
The distribution range of moss is very wide; it can survive in the tropics and also grow in temperate and relatively cold regions. Next, we bring you how to grow moss.
1. How to grow moss
1. First, we need to choose a patch of moss that is growing relatively well and take some home. Then soak and wash off the grass attached to it with clean water. If it is larger-growing moss, you can cut it into small pieces with a knife or scissors; for the small kind of moss, just pull it apart with your hands.
2. Then mix it together, just like planting. First fill the container prepared for growing the moss to seven-tenths full with sandy soil, then mix the crushed moss with a small amount of remaining soil, and cover it over the container that was just filled to seven-tenths full. As for the soil chosen for planting, it is best to use the kind of soil used for growing cacti, which has relatively few nutrients, and it is fine even if the planting container is not hollowed out.
3. Then place it in a cool place, with about two hours of light each day as long as it is not direct sunlight. As for water, just water it whenever you think of it; it is best to water at night, because for moss, night is when it grows relatively faster and needs slightly more nutrients. Generally, in less than two months you will begin to see some green of the moss; with some faster ones, it grows out in one month. Sometimes it grows even more slowly and only grows after two months; at this time we need to be more patient, just leave it alone, and when the time comes it will grow out.
Because of different environments, the time for moss to sprout buds will also vary greatly; if fast, you can see it begin to grow in one month.
