Banana Plant is also known as Water Marsh Flower, a perennial floating-leaved herbaceous plant. Its leaves are attractive with a pleasant green color, and its fleshy nutrient roots resemble bananas, making it an important tropical ornamental aquatic plant. So how do you grow it? Let's find out below.

How to Grow Banana Plant?

1. Planting

For cultivation, this plant is mainly propagated by division, usually carried out from March to June each year. Tissue culture can also be used for seedling propagation. For tank cultivation, it can be done in conjunction with division propagation. If planted separately, the container used is usually a medium-sized aquarium, and care should be taken to ensure the placement location allows the plant to receive the required light. First, spread the growing substrate on the bottom of the aquarium to a thickness of 3-5 cm. To make handling easier, first fill the tank halfway with water, then plant. During planting, use the growing substrate to cover the fine roots well, leaving the banana-shaped rhizome fully exposed in the water, which both benefits plant growth and enhances ornamental value.

2. Light

When light is insufficient, new leaves tend to turn yellow and old leaves gradually rot and die. In such cases, light can be appropriately increased. It is best to let it receive 4-6 hours of scattered sunlight daily; if using fluorescent lamps, providing 10-12 hours of light per day can also ensure good plant growth. It prefers warmth and fears cold, growing well within a temperature range of 22-28°C.

3. Temperature

Excessively high water temperature will inhibit plant growth. The overwintering temperature should not be lower than 4°C, and is best kept around 12°C. Under good management conditions, Banana Plant is not prone to disease and is less susceptible to attacks by harmful animals.
