The Venus flytrap is a carnivorous plant. It attracts mosquitoes and flies into its claw-like leaves by giving off a foul smell, then snaps shut, trapping the insects, which are finally digested by the liquid it secretes. So how do you grow a Venus flytrap?

1. Soil

The Venus flytrap is best planted in acidic soil. If it is grown in a pot, the soil needs to be replaced once a year to make sure the soil stays acidic.

2. Watering

The Venus flytrap likes to live in a humid environment and needs to be watered appropriately. It is best to water in the morning and in the evening; there is no need to water too much at one time, to avoid root rot.

3. Feeding with insects

If there are not many insects where the Venus flytrap is grown, you can also buy mealworms from a flower, bird and fish market to feed it. But note that inside the leaf of the Venus flytrap there are actually two trigger hairs, and it can only close when the prey touches both of them at the same time; if only one is touched, it will not close.

The Venus flytrap cannot be placed in direct sun, otherwise it is prone to lack water, which may cause the leaves to turn yellow, or even dry up and die.
